Annoying Things People Put Up On Their Weblogs

14 September 2005 15:32

I'm in the mood for some nitpicking. So stand back, people. This could get ugly.

  1. On entertainment related weblogs, especially those that comment on reality entertainment shows' performances, apparently everybody's trying to be the expert in judging the contestant's performances, which ends up being nothing more than a regurgitation of the professional judges' opinions most of the time.
  2. The ones that talk about technology or gadgetry are simply rehashing whatever anybody can find on either Slashdot or Engadget, offering no opinion of their own in actuallyusing or experiencing for themselves the stuff they're putting up as their weblog entry. Oh, whatever that's from Google or Apple is cool and whatever that's from Microsoft is suspect. They advocate the use of Open Source products but in reality they don't run it on their own PCs as pirated Microsoft stuff can be easily obtained for a couple of bucks in town, even though they're supposedly bug ridden and full of vulnerabilities. Otherwise, how else can they play the latest games?
  3. There are those who totally ignore the basic rules of grammar and write as if they are instant messaging or SMS-ing by using abbreviations like ur, ppl, pls, dat, dun, lolz, omg, wtf, knn, ccb, mch, etc. Is there a character limitation imposed anywhere?
  4. On the other side of the coin, some don't believe in abbreviation. Maybe they don't realize that had they usedgila, jadi, ada instead of giler, jadik or ader they can save themselves a keystroke. On top of that, words such as korunk, konpem, kompius, tomolo really grates.
  5. When taking group pictures, at least one person in the picture has to have his or her hand gesturing the peace sign.
  6. Food has to be posed properly and photographed before consumed.
  7. Don't get me started on those who do any of the above and then get paid for doing it.

tapi yang lebih meloyakan tekak lagi adalah peeps yang rasa blognya begitu bagus dan menulis semua senarai di atas sebab merasakan blog orang lain tak cukup bagus..after all, arts (and blogs) are subjective, you cant blame people if they like Picasso just because anda tak faham apa yang dia lukiskan

Anonymous: yes, i admit that it was unfair of me to clump everyone together in a pile when i put that list up. i was being overly cynical there. however, i disagree that you cannot see plenty of c&p being done. some proudly advertise their weblogs at places where everyone can see and then expect people to read the c&p'ed postings. google tech news may not be the main one but i mentioned slashdot and engadget specifically.

as for use of the words, yes i have used them here before, but that was taking it verbatim from the sms messages on my phone. my reference was to those who write on serious issues supposedly but uses those kind of words and abbreviations instead. maybe that's just me but yeah, i was being vague up there as well. i'm not saying that you it shouldn't be used at all but rather, by all means, use it to good effect and delivery.

of course, maintaining a weblog should be fun. i wouldn't be doing this myself for four years (and counting, alhamdulillah) if it weren't fun. criticizing those contestants performances can (and should!) be fun but my point was for them to be original and not merely repeating word for word what the judges have said because we all heard that already and don't need to be told again. The worst of the lot repeat the opinions of the judges and passes them as their own, which is what this whole thing was about. what more of those who are apparently making a living out of copying people's ideas and works. that just got me all riled up.

my salaams and thanks to both you and DemYuh for the wonderful feedback on this. i certainly appreciate it! :)

What's with the angst dude?  Chill out!

at the end of the day, those who were offended would take it to heart. Otherwise it is just another two cents worth.

But hey, this happens to alot of those who have blogged for sometime. You tend to get aggitated with the repeated pattern like such.

However, you missed out another one.

Annoys the crap out of me. Oh wait, that's just me really.

9. Why do people point at their wrists when they ask what time it is? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the bathroom is?
