Internet Users Aren't Social Retards

28 January 2004 08:11

So Internet users aren't socially incapable as they're often thought of to be after all. Rather, arecent study finds that they are "an avid reader of books and spends more time engaged in social activities than the non-user" and that they also spend less time watching the idiot box. See? Toldya I'm not so much of a nerd (though I reckon that I'm very much a navel gazinggeek).

I hav heard comments of two extremes. one was from people like Jeff Ooi, Nizam Zakaria and Adam (Ah OK Lah), that blogging will push the social awareness on current issues affecting our life to a greater extend, hence creating a civic society whose voice the govt cannot ignore. on the other hand, someone brushed my blog off and said ministers are not even free to read papers, let alone the thousands of web discussions as well as blogs. ultimately, web is juz like the society at large. there are all kinds of people. some are of good quality, but it is never uniform. of coz those chat everyday in to look for one night stand partners are totally another breed.
