Bring It On!

18 October 2001 11:21

Whoohoo! This has gotta be the longest lapse yet as far as PWM's concerned! I was concentrating on some other stuff lately. Menial and mundane stuff. My head's really done in with the PWM thingy lately so I decided to take some time off from it. So today, I was at it again and fixed a couple of things mainly the Guestbook and Comments thingy. Previously what happened was that if you throw in an apostrophe into the entry and it'll just go *klunk*. So essentially, it's been made slightly more robust now. Oh yeah! See that 'Comment' thingy along the header? Feel free to throw in comments into my daily ramblings. Bring it on!

Got a call from one of my ol' buddies at PPP/ITM last night. It all stemmed from my curiousity when I ran his name on Google and saw his name coming up on UKM's website. I went, "W.t.f. is that s.o.b. doing there??!" So anyways, nice to hear from you again, Hafiz!

Limp Bizkit Gone Wes-less

14 October 2001 03:43

Saw this bit of news as I was browsing MTV's website. I'm sure this one caught many people and especially fans offguard. The parting was an amicable one it seems. No matter what, I think it may change Limp Bizkit's sound somewhat. He's been with the band since its inception and has somewhat made LB as what it is today. That elaborate face and body paint will be sorely missed from LB's future performances. But perhaps we'll see it again with Big Dumb Face instead? Heh!

Busy Weekend

8 October 2001 10:10

Gee! The weekend turned out to be quite eventful after all. First on Friday evening, I was at my Aunt's wedding (Heh! Corny as it may seem, she's a couple of years younger than I am! In the scheme of things, she's my Mom's cousin). So many congratulations, Tini and Khairi!

Then, I was at MK's farewell lunch party at Planet Hollywood yesterday afternoon. Almost the whole of AMPi's team members were there. He'll be pursuing greener pastures after his stint at AMPi. All the best, dude! Oyez! I finally get to meet his kickass wifey too! Check her out... I mean her site!

This afternoon, Hadi invited me to his month old son's aqiqah and potong jambul ceremony at his place in Seremban. Heh! I wasn't sure how I should go about snipping off a tuft of hair from the baby. God knows I might poke the baby with the scissors or something. Thankfully it all went alright! Alhamdulillah! So congratulations once again, Hadi!

Snap! Snap! Click! Click! Flash!

4 October 2001 13:54

Heh! I finally broke down and got myself a Nikon Coolpix 775 digital camera instead. I know! I know! I've been rambling and singing praises for the Canon Powershot A20 all this while. So why the change of mind? Two things: 1. Rechargeable Li-ion batteries, this one came bundled with the CP775 while the A20 doesn't and 2. Compact Flash Memory Card, the shop I got this one from was willing to throw in a 64MB CF card for like an additional RM 50. So that's that. How do I find it so far? Great! A tad small though. I'm so used to using an SLR camera all this while so it's a bit awkward going back to something similiar to a compact camera. Nightshots aren't quite possible with this camera. No matter how hard I try to force the Exposure level settings, it's just not able to capture that much light, resulting an image with a lot of "noise". I suppose I'll have to wait a bit till I can afford something like the CoolPix 995 then. Heh! This is almost turning into a review already. Perhaps I oughtta put it in as an article instead.

PWM's Progress

3 October 2001 13:46

Remember I wanted to work on the Bookmark/Link Manager thingy in my post a couple of days ago? Heh! I ended up went working on the Comment posting thingy instead! It wasn't too much effort on the coding portion for the user front end, but it's quite a bit of a job for the admin portion since I'm stuck on how to lay it all out on the screen. Now, this thing is really almost taking on the form of Greymatter, which I really didn't intend to in the first place. Then again, all the stuff under the hood is just different, most notably this site being database driven. Don't get me wrong. I used Greymatter and have in fact, installed it on my machine. The stuff just rocks! I wish I could write something like that. If only I have the patience for programming as I do troubleshooting system or network related issues. Haa!

Speaking of which, I've been spending some time lately browsing the web and have noticed people taking on blogging (weblogging). It's like an online journal thingy, similiar to this one, although I'd like to think that mine's more like Slashdot. Some of them blogs out there make really interesting reading! Reminds me of that book "Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4" by Sue Townsend. I think if the Internet were as popular as it is today, Sue Townsend might just make Adrian Mole write a blog instead! Heheh!

Monday Blues

2 October 2001 11:43

Mondays always suck. Period. Besides Monday being my pet peeve, another major pet peeve of mine has to be driving the streets of KL during rush hour. @#$%! It's a confounding experience I tell you. As if the traffic jam is not already bad, you have to put up with some of the most uncouth drivers on this planet. No way they're gonna give way, even if it's your right of way, which in turn causes more jam in the end. Then, there are the motorcyclists. Now we've all been made to learn to be considerate of them motorcyclists and all that. Thing is, I think the same needs to be done for them to be considerate and courteous too. Look, you're riding a bike that's like about 5 to 6 feet long and about 2 feet wide. You don't HAVE to be riding smack in the middle of the road in the middle lane right??! As if that's not enough, your weaving in and out of traffic just gets on other road users' nerves as well! Good grief! Driving used to be pleasurable and more so when I was studying abroad to the point of it being therapeutic. Now it's just being traumatic. Worst part of it is that I have to go thru it everyday now first thing in the morning for about 1-1.5 hours and then again at the end of the day. Really not good for one's mental health. Then again, since when my mental thingy being healthy anyways? Hahaa!

I Think Therefore I.M.

29 September 2001 15:54

I've been very much an MSN Messenger user all this while. I do have accounts on other messenger platforms but I've pretty much stuck with MSN 'cos it's been made the standard at my workplace and I'm just too lazy to install other messenger software on my machine. I guess I have somewhat abandoned some of my pals who are on other platforms all this while. Not anymore! I just discovered something called Jabber and I'm just hooked! This thing is like the Swiss Army knife of IM! I can be on all IM platforms at the same time by just using Jabber alone! It's also not tied to any specific OS as it supports almost all OS in existence due to the fact that it's also Open Source. The Jabber client that I use has a rather clean User Interface as well so that's another plus point. I've always hated the cluttered state of the ICQ interface and that has somewhat put me off as well. I guess I have no excuse for not being in touch with my friends using other IMs now! Enough geektalk...

I think I've pretty much decided on which digital camera to get, theCanon Powershot A20. I'm decided on the features and this one is smack on target. It has also got good reviews on Amazon. I'm gonna be going out this weekend to do some price surveys on this thing. Also to check if it's actually available in this country! :\

Oooh! Here's a new babe on the block: Jolene Blalock. She's playing science officer TÂ’Pol on the new Star Trek prequel series Enterprise. Speaking of babes, Ms. Teen USA is showing on TV right now. It's amazing that these young women have great minds to go with their looks. Visual AND mental stimulation! Grrrroowwwrrr! Anyways, later y'all! Drool time! :P~~~

Worms and BGP Routing Instability

29 September 2001 03:16

I knew it!!! But I didn't know how to prove it. Read my post some few days back (i.e. ISP'S SERIOUS LAG-NESS). Anyhow, some people out there did the legwork and put up a preliminary report on it. Interesting!

Ralph Girl Compo Results

27 September 2001 17:56

Just got back from the Bali dance club after watching Adik compete in the Ralph Girl competition. She ended up winning the consolation prize. It's a competition won by the underdogs really! Even the one who was voted the highest in the qualifying round ended up winning the consolation prize as well! Anyways, I gotta give props to her for actually making it this far even. Right now, I'm just looking forward to lesser mirror hoggings going around in the house. ;) She's vain I tell you! Vain! And I'm the jerk-aholic brother, you say? Yeah, I know! Bwaahahahahaa!

I'll Think About It

25 September 2001 14:34

Okay, so why is the side panel empty? I dunno. Seems like an awful lot of real-estate being to put to waste eh? Then again, I've seen other sites that are even emptier and have its contents being put in a 150 pixel wide table with 8 point fonts. I'll think about it.

Next question, why aren't there many (if any) graphics/pictures on this site? Perhaps it's just my nature. I'm not a graphics or design person in the first place. Inspirations for graphics design come to me sparsely. Besides, I'd like to keep it simple for now. Minimalism is the order of the day. I just hope that it doesn't apply content wise in the long run. Pictures wise, well, here is something that I can show. It was taken from my previous website. I've got loads of pictures before, but due to my dumbass-ness of restoring the OS on my PC several weeks back, I inadvertantly restored it to the wrong partition and wiped out all the pictures that I had scanned. Not only that, it essentially wiped out some 5 years worth of work, emails, programming stuff, junk, etc. etc. I don't have a scanner at the moment to re-scan all those pictures. I'm contemplating on getting one actually. Either that or a digital camera. Perhaps both. The only issue is fundage. I'll think about it.

On other fronts, the Personal Website Manager system that I've been working on in my spare time is nearing completion. I guess I can call it V0.9 now and as such, it's gone LIVE on the 'Net (otherwise, you wouldn't be reading this stuff, yah! ;) Much of the features I had in mind are already in place. Yesterday another major milestone was acheived with the session management module for the Admin (but WITHOUT using any of them dreaded Session variables or such, that's the trick!) got completed. Minor things such as auto pagination for the Guestbook and Archive section got completed as well. It's almost there. Last one that I haven't gotten to doing is the Bookmark/Link Manager. I still dunno how. I'll think about it.
