Ableton Live Love!

20 June 2007 17:03

I've had several people asking me what do I use to make those mashups/remixes. So I guess the timing hasn't been better to express my love for this exquisite piece of German software engineering called Ableton Live. Now in its 6th incarnation, Live allows people like me who hasn't gotten any formal musical training to get audio expressions (I still don't think most of the stuff I came up with qualifies as "musical") out of my head. Word also has it that American Idol runner-up Blake Lewis used Live himself to remix and create those unexpected arrangements of Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" and Diana Ross' "You Keep Me Hanging On".

Live is fun to use, easy to learn and unlike Windows, it's rock solid with it hardly ever crashing on me (or Windows for that matter). Since I also use it exclusively to do the song edits for So You Think You Can Dance, I actually purchased a licensed boxed copy of it, which includes the Essential Instrument Collection, from audioMIDI.com (Mom and Dad once told me never earn a living using stolen goods). The good folks there also bundled a free M-Audio Oxygen 49 MIDI controller keyboard with my purchase! But that's not all. They even threw in a spiffy Ableton t-shirt that is just my size!

In my next entry, I'm going to tell you how Ableton Live helped me improve my fitness, win friends, increase my IQ and move one step closer to getting laid scoring that long term relationship with a member of the opposite sex.

Kau Kunci My Humps Di Dalam Hati Mu

Here's a mashup track that didn't go anywhere as I lost the momentum to complete it. Makes a good cellphone ringtone though. Just make sure you answer your phone within 17 seconds before it starts to embarass you in public. You might just get pelted.
