Begun This Eid Exodus Has

21 November 2003 21:02

It's almost the "Hari Raya" weekend already and most people would be making the "balik kampung" exodus to their respective hometowns by this evening and through the weekend. If you're one of those, have a good and safe trip back home. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir Batin.

A Friendster's Testimonial

19 November 2003 15:48

Albert a.k.a. Glaring Notebook or Ah Bert as I'd like to call him, had this to say about me in my Friendster testimonial:

The Original Walking Talking DNS Server. Now with additional value for money! You have to respect his patience with computers, as it has gotten him far. He's cool too and does not reek of geekiness! "What talking you?" "Whole house orange!" "Boosht!" (a sneeze) More such classic catchphrases can only originate from this 1337 dude.
If you're thinking it's all gobbledygook, it's just his nice way of saying that I'm *really* a geek. Thanks, dude! :P

Meanwhile Irma a.k.a. Brickchick has been pestering me to write hers...

I Loathe You, Samy Vellu

18 November 2003 12:34

Pak Lah made a surprise visit to the Immigration Department in Pusat Bandar Damansara the other day. If I may submit a wishlist to Pak Lah, I would like him to take a ride on the LDP Highway without any of those police escorts that forces other road users to make way for his vehicle and also, have Samy Vellu be the driver of his car with a full bladder to boot. I'd like Pak Lah to see if Samy can withstand the hour long 6km crawl from Kelana Jaya to the Sunway toll plaza. Oh yes. Samy has to fork out for that RM1 toll too.

See Pak Lah, not only do the frontline government agencies need to buck up, something desperately needs to be done about the state of our "premium" highways too. It really is unfair, not to mention ironic, to charge road users RM1 to use a highway that is jammed because of the toll collection! Tell Samy to try growing brains instead of hair on that head of his and do away with his cheti houses on our highways. I'm sure you're all for eradicating the First World Infrastructure, Third World Mentality malaise that's plaguing a lot of things in this country.

Perspectives On Living Life

17 November 2003 06:16

First I was dying to finish my high school and start college. And then I was dying to finish college and start working. Then I was dying to marry and have children. And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough so I could go back to work. But then I was dying to retire. And now I'm dying. And suddenly I realized I forgot to live.

- Unknown

The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A death. What's that, a bonus??! I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you go live in an old age home. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, then, when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You drink alcohol, you party, and you get ready for High School. You go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back, you spend you last 9 months floating with luxuries like central heating, spa, room service on tap, then you finish off as an orgasm! Amen!

What's Long And Horny And Is On My Lappy?

14 November 2003 19:14

Okay, lame choice of words for the subject line indeed. :P Anyways, being the geek that I am, I got my hands on the PDC bits of what is going to be the next generation of the Windows operating system which is now codenamed Longhorn. I got it installed on my laptop already and it's still very rough around the edges (why not, it's at a pre-alpha stage right now). Takes up gobs of resources (almost 700 megs of RAM and 3 gigs of HD right off the bat, but that's because this build is running on debug code). Its UI is nothing much to shout about right now as they're still keeping Aero under wraps and is pretty much the same as XP or 2003. The underlying stuff is where things get a little bit interesting with things likeAvalon, Indigo and my pick, WinFS. There's also the new programming model introduced, i.e. WinFX. Other new stuff I noticed on it were the new IE (finally with pop-up blocker!), IIS 7, .NET Framework V2.0, that big-assed clock on that sidebar (takes up lots of screen real-estate). We'll see what else we can dig up in the days to come.

Update (1045 hours): OSNews has just posted their preview of Longhorn themselves. My opinion and theirs don't seem to differ much.

More Fun Than A Barrel Of Monkeys

13 November 2003 04:13

At least that what I heard Terry say not too long ago (and no! I'm not "pseudo"-ing this up like that bit of "gaffe" this morning!) The three and a half hours this morning sure went over too fast to bleed anybody's ears for that matter. :P Bart and I were on The Kick Start with Terry and Shareena on Red 104.9 this morning and I must say that it was certainly an interesting experience being on a show that I typically would listen to on my way to work everyday. Looking at how they do stuff on air, take in calls, handle the SMSes, calmly close "Internet Exploder" whenever it fails to respond, etc. etc. Anyways, Terry and Shareena, thanks so much for having us in your show this morning! And yes people, Shareena IS indeed taller than Terry like you see in the picture! And yes, contrary to the impression that I have all this while, they do shower every morning before the show despite having to wake up at such ungodly hours!

Let Me Bleed Your Ears On National Radio

11 November 2003 00:20

I suppose the time I spent in running my own pirate radio station didn't go to waste 'cos this coming Wednesday (November 12, 2003), I'll be bleeding your ears LIVE on national radio at Red 104.9 in The Kick Start with Terry and Shareena between 6:00am to 10:00am (+8 GMT) as a guest DJ! For those who are unable to tune in via radio, there's also a live Internet stream (Windows Media Player required) going on so there really is no excuse not to bleed your ears this Wednesday!

The One Paragraph CDs and DVDs Review

9 November 2003 22:02

I got me some CDs and DVDs lately. Afdlin Shauki - Fuuyo! Enjoyable tracks by this multi-talented artist. Floetry - Floetic. Sweet flowing poetry in the key of R&B. Mollucas - Se. Sweet sounding R&B from the harmonizing trio of Audry, Pita and Naomi, Indonesia's very own version of Destiny's Child.Shanty - Persembahan Dari Hati. With the exception of two or three tracks, the rest comes as though they're half-baked dance pop tracks by this ex-MTV VJ.The Chemical Brothers - Singles 93-03. A nostalgic compilation of some of the finest tracks released by this DJ duo in the past decade. The Matrix Reloaded. More action (Burly Brawl and Freeway Action) than philosophy (I still can't figure out what Colonel Sanders a.k.a. The Architect was talking about despite turning on the subtitles), they really should've leftThe Matrix without any sequels.Finding Nemo. I can finally say that I found (a.k.a. watched) Nemo!
